Could I? Should I?

I think I would like to try travelling alone. I have always been a very confident and independant person. I am capable of making my own decisions and taking care of myself. How would it feel to travel alone? Would I be lonely? Would I make many new friends? How much would it cost me? How far in advance would I have to plan? Where would I go? Would my sense of direction hinder me or would it make the trip more interesting?

I read this online: Solo travellers enjoy the freedom of making all the decisions, experience the world unfiltered by anyone else's perspective, live intensely, meet people more easily and are invited into their lives more readily, avoid difficult travel companions, and get in touch with themselves.

When I read this I thought this sounds like something I would like to try.
Any comments or thoughts?

  2. when you think you would like to try ;), i would say there is only one way to find out.....

You would not be lonely, when you backpack over the world there are always other people doing the same, you will meet in hostels and hotels, in buses and everywhere.

I would suggest you plan just one thing in advance, your ticket. All other plans will just hinder you in the freedom to travel as you choose. You will get tips form other people you meet on the way and adapt your schedule as you like. You can choose to travel with a small group for a few days, stay where you love it, move on when you are bored.

You can book a sort of triangle ticket where you arrive at one airport and leave from another one, so you spend your time dinding your way from the one to the other. Your ticket will be the most expensive part of your journey when you choose to travel to inexpensive countries like indonesia or malaysia, but there are many others to choose from.

Take at least 3 weeks, but a few months is even better of course :P
