Now that I am working at a place that butchers hogs I decided it was time to try out some recipes that use the product that provides my finances. :)
Here is a link to the web page of my employer: http://www.countrymeat.ca/wp/
I am really enjoying doing book keeping again.
One of the Hamm family favorite recipes we used to make was called pork buttons. I say used to because I can no longer locate pork buttons in the grocery stores. This week I was informed that pork buttons are made from rib tails. Apparently they don't make pork buttons because they take too much time to make and don't sell for enough to cover the preparation costs.
I've included a picture of the raw pig tail product that I purchased for the recipe.
I am making the same sauce recipe that was given to me by my mother in law early in my home making years. The recipe is called Sweet & Sour Pork Buttons, I guess I should change it to Sweet & Sour Pork Tails.
Here is the recipe. It's dinner for us today!
Sweet and Sour Sauce ingredients:
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
2 tbsp Vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 Cup Chili Sauce
1/2 cup water
Mix sauce ingredients into a pot and boil for 10-15 min. on stove top.
8-10 Pork Tails
Cover pork tails with water in a pot and boil about 20 min or until foam appears on top of the water. This is to remove some of the excess fat on the meat.
Drain the water and add the pork tails to the sauce that you prepared earlier.
Bring to a light boil on med to low for 1 hour.
Rice and a side vegetable dish completes this meal.
Hey Bren..I love this..you are posting recipes:) Great job. What is that saying again..'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree'!
