One Week In Jamaica

In flight meal

My husband and I arrived in Jamaica on Jan.26/11. This was our first visit to Jamaica. We booked our trip with Nolitours and our airline carrier was Transat Air. The flight was 5 hours in teeny tiny seats, that seemed to be made for a child. I can barely understand how they expect you to eat the included flight meal with no room to move your arms.
Day one was mostly travel. We left our home at 7:30am to arrive at the airport the recommended 3 hours before take off. We arrived at our resort at 8pm. By this time it was very dark. I did not once notice the moon while we stayed at this resort making it even darker at nights. I was a bit disappointed that we were unable to view the country during our 1 hour bus ride to the resort. It was just too dark out.
The check in at Super Fun resort was quick and efficient. Although the front desk staff did not seem excited to greet us. The resort was very beautiful and well maintained.
View from our Room

We were pleased with our room and the view from the window.

A few things we did miss having in our room: balcony, fridge, coffee, toiletries like shampoo, soap, etc. The door to our room faced the games area and the buffet area where the nightly shows where presented, although it didn't stop me from getting my sleep.

Our Room

Our room
Buffet meals consisted of: Jerk Chicken or Beef, Fish, Rice, Veggies, bacon, sausages, eggs made to order, pasta, salad, potatoes cubed, soup, bread, etc. The buffet ended up being pretty boring before our week ended.
Snack Food: burgers, fries, jerk chicken, paste's, etc.

And.... we were unable to book the ala cart's because they were always fully booked. This was disappointing. I am guessing if we would have complained enough we would have gotten a booking, but who wants to spend time at the front desk complaining while on vacation.

The majority of the staff were very friendly. Although the entertainment team didn't acknowledge me or Kevin during our entire stay. We enjoyed playing ping pong in the games room. Kayaking , snorkeling and glass bottom boat (all included) were also very enjoyable. This resort is not known for its beautiful beach, but that isn't a big deal for me. The waves crashing in on the rocks was very enjoyable to watch and the hammock that is by the ocean was wonderful to spend time relaxing in.

This resort has many different area's to spend your days at, making it difficult to know exactly how many people were at the resort. I don't think it was booked to capacity.

I found the extras that cost you money to be too expensive. Internet was $9US for 15min. Massage was $70 for 1 hour. Our resort offered the trip to Dunn River Falls 2x a day for $35 a person. It was a 20min ride to the falls from our resort. Although I wanted to I never did go on this excursion.

Exchange rate in Jamaica was 1.15us = 100ja

We purchased a few souvenirs. Coffee is a great thing to buy in Jamaica as it is considered to be some of the best in the world . The blue mountain coffee is on average $20/lb. We also purchased some jerk seasoning and a few other small purchases.

A few things we felt were positive differences from some of our other trips: No Tipping needed (it was not encouraged), being able to drink the water from the tap, easy going staff and guests, English speaking country,  walkway along the ocean, Appleton Rum, snorkeling and glass bottom boat included.

Our room is on the second floor

We missed not having 24 hour service, like food and drinks. Too many private area's making the resort seem a bit empty and difficult to meet people, the ala cart's only being open a few nights a week.

Getting home: the ride back to the Montego Bay airport was quicker than our trip to the resort as the bus driver was a bit heavy on the pedal. We got to view the beautiful Jamaican country as we travelled to the airport. In my opinion Jamaica seemed much more lush than many other Caribbean countries we have visited. Maybe that is why ganja is so easily acquired. Weed is defiantly a common scent in Jamaica.
We arrived with plenty of time to check in and wander the Montego Bay airport. Jamaican people are very friendly and relaxed. I enjoyed my visit to Jamaica, and I would have loved to see more of the island.

Those plane seats really look cramped.
